My Bruises Are From was established in 2016 to raise awareness and support survivors of domestic violence and abuse.
The name was intentional.
So was the discomfort it created.
Some bruises come from training.
Too many come from violence that is hidden, minimized, or explained away.
This organization was created to challenge that silence and to stand with survivors whose experiences are often misunderstood or dismissed.
Our Core Mission
At its core, My Bruises Are From exists to support survivors of domestic violence and abuse through awareness, advocacy, and community action.
From the beginning, that support has taken many forms:
-
Naming the realities of abuse, including physical, emotional, psychological, and financial harm
-
Acknowledging how often violence is underreported
-
Creating space for survivors to be seen, believed, and supported
-
Raising funds through community-led events to support survivor-focused organizations and resources
Awareness has always mattered.
But what communities choose to do with that awareness matters even more.
Community in Action
Over the years, My Bruises Are From has been carried forward not just by words, but by people.
Through grassroots fundraising efforts, training-based events, and community gatherings, supporters have shown that action can be both meaningful and collective. These events were not about spectacle or scale. They were about showing up, starting conversations, and directing tangible support where it was needed most.
These moments mattered. They still do.
A Note of Gratitude
There have been seasons when this work was quieter, less visible, or carried forward without fanfare.
To the Ambassadors, supporters, academy owners, training partners, and community members who continued to share the message, host events, donate, speak up, and stand with survivors during those years, we offer our sincere thanks.
You kept the torch lit.
You ensured the mission did not fade.
You made it possible for this next chapter to exist.
Why Community Matters
Abuse does not happen in isolation.
Neither does healing.
Communities play a powerful role in whether harm is ignored, normalized, or addressed with care. That is especially true in close-knit spaces built on trust, hierarchy, and physical proximity.
My Bruises Are From has always believed that communities can be part of the solution when they are willing to listen, learn, and take responsibility for the environments they create.
The Ambassador Program
The Ambassador program is one way this mission comes to life.
Ambassadors are not authorities or gatekeepers. They are people who care deeply about healthy culture and are willing to model it.
Ambassadors support this work by:
-
Carrying forward awareness and education
-
Supporting and participating in community fundraising efforts
-
Encouraging respectful, ethical training environments
-
Helping normalize speaking up without blame or fear
-
Serving as connectors and steady voices within their communities
Looking Ahead
My Bruises Are From remains committed to its original purpose: standing with survivors and challenging the silence that allows harm to persist.
As this work continues, new initiatives, partnerships, and tools may grow from that foundation. These efforts are meant to strengthen communities, not replace the mission that started it all.
The heart of this organization has not changed.
My Bruises Are From is built on people showing up for one another.
For survivors.
For communities.
For the long work of care, accountability, and change.
Thank you for being part of this story, and for helping write the next chapter.
